If there’s a brand that has managed to crack the formula of manufacturing in the USA while keeping prices relatively low, it’s HON! It also happens to be a subsidiary of one of the largest furniture makers in the world, HNI corp.
The brand first came into being in 1944, eventually becoming a popular name in office furniture. And it did all of this while producing sustainable furniture and minimizing its carbon footprint.
Throughout its existence, HON has remained dedicated to promoting manufacturing in the USA. It operates many facilities across the country and believes that making its furniture here not only assures the highest level of quality but is also the right thing to do. If you’d like, you can see on their website here exactly which products they offer that are made in the USA.
What We Like and Don’t Like About HON Ignition 2.0 Chairs
Let’s kick this list off with one of the most recognizable American-made office chairs on the market. HON Ignition 2.0 has won over office-goers due to its superior comfort and style. With its contoured, plush seat and a backrest made from 4-way stretchy mesh, this chair will make work hours so breezy that your body will thank you for it.
Ergonomically, the chair is on point, featuring an innovative synchro-tilt control along with an upright tilt lock and tension control. What’s more, everything from lumbar support to the contoured padded seat to armrests is fully adjustable to give you comfort all day long.

This chair feels incredibly well built, and it is extremely comfortable to sit in. Overall, it’s very strong, and compared to most office chairs made overseas, it will last much longer in most cases. The only thing we don’t like about this chair is that it’s only available in 2 colors, but the colors it is available in look very sharp.
Who We Recommend This Chair For:
Now, coming to the part that impressed me the most – Hon offers this chair in several variants to give you exactly what you seek, including back height, upholstery, seat padding, recline control, and colors.
The fact that you have the freedom to customize the chair makes it ideal for almost everyone looking for a durable and comfortable task chair to support long work hours. Even though it operates some facilities overseas, many of its popular chairs are still designed, engineered, and assembled at its factory in Zeeland, Michigan.
What We Like and Don’t Like About Herman Miller Mirra 2 Chairs
Aptly named “Mirra,” this chair uses its agile design to mirror your movement, allowing you to move organically. It has an interesting butterfly suspension back, which, together with an advanced loop spine, is responsive to your back movements and stretches. The breathable AirWeave 2 mesh material keeps you cool and distributes weight to reduce pressure on your spine and legs.
Everything from the adjustable lumbar support, passive harmonic tilt, and FourFlex seat depth tweaking mechanism contribute to the superior ergonomics of the chair. The Mirra 2 has been exquisitely designed by the renowned German design firm, Studio 7.5. And that’s why you get a chair that’s not only packed with great features but also has a sleek, light, and eye-catching profile. The only thing not to like here is the price, but the Mirra 2 could be the poster child for the phrase “buy once, cry once.”
Who We Recommend This Chair For:
Mirra 2 is made from 53% recycled material, and almost all of it is further recyclable, so it’s an excellent pick for those who want an eco-friendly office chair. It comes fully assembled and can be put right to use.
The Mirra 2 is perfect for someone who wants the absolute highest quality and isn’t afraid to pay for it. We already discussed a Herman Miller chair above, but the company has so many good office chairs that we had to include another one on this list.
Herman Miller is the USA’s largest office furniture maker but an extremely green one at that. When it comes to sustainability and eco-friendly practices, Herman Miller walks the talk. Founder D.J. De Pree always believed in being a good steward of the environment.
Starting mid-90s, the company intensified its efforts to meet goals such as zero-waste-to-landfill, eliminating the use of rare tropical rosewood in their furniture, creating earth-friendly designs, and using recyclable materials, among many others.
What We Like and Don’t Like About Herman Miller Aeron Chairs
Herman Miller makes another appearance on this list, this time with its iconic Aeron. The chair has sold over 8 million units in sales! And let’s just say, when it comes to office chairs, Aeron has become somewhat of a legend. After all, this chair has often been described as an ergonomic wonder! Though it wasn’t always the case. Since its debut in 1994, the design team has constantly innovated to improve the comfort profile of the chair.
The model we are talking about features the 8Z Pellicle suspension material and proprietary PostureFit SL pads that give ample back support and correct sitting posture. Furthermore, Harmonic 2 Tilt allows for natural and balanced reclination. Other micro ergonomics, including height, depth, and angle adjustability, are also excellent across the board.
Who We Recommend This Chair For:
Like many other Herman Miller chairs, Aeron is sustainably built with recyclable material and, therefore, a great fit in eco-conscious homes and offices. If you are someone who keeps long, round-the-clock work hours, avoid spending your money on cheaper chairs and opt for the highly durable and comfortable Aeron.
Finally, this chair comes in different sizes, colors, and support specs. It’s a good idea to zero down on a variant that supports your body type and preference. Overall, it’s easily one of the best office chairs made in the USA on the market, and it’s one we highly recommend!

The brand is design-driven, with centers set up strategically worldwide. But what impressed me most is that they design, source, and manufacture products where they are delivered. This helps in sustainability and catering to local tastes and culture. Also, despite having overseas manufacturing factories, most of what they offer to American customers is made right here, in the USA.
What We Like and Don’t Like About Haworth Soji Task Chairs

Hi, my name is Kevin and I’m from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Choosing products made in America is important to me because it supports local economies, creates jobs, helps the environment, and ensures ethical labor practices. I also find that American made products are usually of higher quality so although they’re a little more expensive, you save money in the long run. Before starting this website I was in the USMC infantry and nowadays I work on this website as a hobby.
I really need a new chair for my office. I think I’ll go with one of the models from HON since it’s not too expensive. There really are some nice chairs out there which is great to see. Sadly some of them are simply out of my budget.
Hey Kensley, I’m glad that you found a chair that fits your budget. I really hope it works out great for you. Let me know if you have any other questions.
This is super-helpful. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this research and share it with us.
I desperately needed a desk chair so I picked one up at staples and carefully tried to see where it was made only to get home and discovered it was made in China. Needless to say 1.5 years later, it’s falling apart. I’m usually so careful with country origin but somehow this one snuck by me.
Hey Tamara, thanks for sharing your experience!
